Smiths Falls Fire Department February updates

During Monday night’s Committee of the Whole meeting in Smiths Falls, Fire Chief Rick Chesebrough shared several updates from the Smiths Falls Fire Department.

The fire department has been successful in the resale of two of its trucks that are no longer needed by the town. A half-ton truck was sold for $7,400 to Derbyshire Auto Sales, and a 1996 Pumper was sold for $20,000 to Saskatchewan First Nation Emergency Management.

Councilor Peter McKenna suggested the truck be packed up with “Smiths Falls bling” as a gift to the purchasers, an idea which was received well by all.

The funds from these sales will be held in reserve to support future fire department vehicle fleet purchases.

As well, Chief Chesebrough announced that the fire service has been successful in recruiting a part time dispatcher. Tammy Hardy, the new hire, is experienced in the field. She is currently a part time dispatcher for Smiths Falls police as well.

“We’re excited to have Tammy start,” commented Chesebrough.
