Weapons charges, IPV breach, and family dispute spark multiple arrests by Smiths Falls Police

Theft investigation results in arrest

On July 30th, 2025 Smiths Falls Police Service commenced an investigation into a shoplifting incident that occurred at a local business. The suspect was quickly identified with the assistance of video surveillance. On August 8th, 2025 with the assistance of Leeds County OPP the suspect was located and surrendered himself to officers.

As a result of the investigation, Timothy PHILLIPS of Elgin has been charged with theft under $5000 (x1), breach of recognizance (x1) and enter premise when entry prohibited (x1). The accused was later released with conditions and a scheduled court date.

Arrest made on outstanding warrant

On July 31st, 2025 a member of the Smiths Falls Police located and arrested a subject who was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court.

34 year old, Rachel LAMING of Smiths Falls was arrested without incident. The bench warrant was in relation to failing to comply with their probation order (x10). The accused was later released with a new scheduled court date.

Family dispute results in wanted persons arrest

On August 1st, 2025 the Smiths Falls Police were called to a local residence after receiving information of a dispute in progress. Upon arrival a subject was located and known to be wanted on an outstanding bench warrant. The accused was subsequently arrested.

A 35 year old female from Smiths Falls was held in custody for a bail court hearing.

9-1-1 call leads to IPV breach

On August 2nd, 2025 Smiths Falls Police received a 9-1-1 call for a report of an unwanted person banging at the door of a residence. Members of the Smiths Falls Police arrived on scene to commence the investigation.

As a result of the investigation, a 36 year old Smiths Falls female stands charged with breach of recognizance (x1). The accused was later released with conditions and a scheduled court date.

Unwanted person arrested after being found in backyard

On August 2nd, 2025 Smiths Falls Police Service received a 9-1-1 call advising that an unwanted person was in their backyard. Members of Smiths Falls Police responded to the location and commenced the investigation.

As a result of the investigation, 59 year old Donnelly SCHUR of Smiths Falls stands charged with trespassing at night (x1), mischief (x1) and carrying concealed weapon (x1). The accused was later released with conditions and a scheduled court date.

Proactive patrol leads to weapons charges

On August 6th, 2025 a member of the Smiths Falls Police was conducting a proactive patrol when a youth was observed on the sidewalk attempting to conceal a large bladed weapon into their waist band. The officer placed the youth under arrest without further incident.

As a result of the investigation, a 17 year old Smiths Falls youth stands charged with possession of weapon for dangerous purpose (x1), theft under $5000 (x1), carrying concealed weapon (x2) and possession of a prohibited device (x1). The accused was later released with conditions and a scheduled court date.
