Calvin Neufeld announced as LFK Green Party candidate

The Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston Green Party of Canada Electoral District Association is excited and pleased to officially announce that Calvin Neufeld of Perth is our candidate for the 2021 federal election. For the past decade Calvin has been a full-time social justice advocate and public speaker whose work has focused on diversity education, anti-bullying, mental health, and the wellbeing of people, animals, and the planet. As the founder of Evolve Our Prison Farms, he has spent the last five years collaborating with academics, activists, and politicians defending the human rights of incarcerated persons and advocating restorative and healing prison farms that serve the public good. Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston has an opportunity to make history when Calvin is elected as Canada’s first-ever transgender Member of Parliament.

This election is happening at a crucial moment. Voting Green sends the message that the Government of Canada must put climate solutions first. “The IPCC Climate Report released last week is a ‘Red Alert for humanity’,” says former Green candidate Anita Payne. “And Election Day is September 20, the start of the United Nations Climate Week. These bookends to the campaign are very auspicious. This is the time to act. It is imperative to elect more Green MPs to hold the Government of Canada to account. You cannot declare a climate emergency one day and then buy a pipeline the next.”

“Change is possible and necessary,” says Calvin.

The Green campaign to elect Calvin Neufeld will reuse signs from past campaigns to reduce our plastic footprint. The Green campaign will be COVID-19 friendly with outdoor “meet the candidate” events and no door-knocking.
