Economic development achieving excellence in Smiths Falls

Jennifer Miller, Economic Director for the town of Smiths Falls, shared good news with council at Monday night’s Committee of the Whole meeting.  Merry & Bright boxes, which were developed as a campaign of the town to support local retailers during a Covid Christmas, brought in nearly $40 000 in direct sales. “We delivered 440 boxes to 17 participating businesses, and invested significant marketing efforts in encouraging everyone to keep their shopping local,” Miller explained.

As well, two economic initiatives of the town of Smiths Falls have been recognized for excellence by the Economic Developers Council of Ontario (EDCO). Smiths Falls’ summer Picnic boxes and SF Local subscription boxes have been chosen as finalists for awards of excellence from among 128 competitors. The EDCO Awards of Excellence is a well-established program recognizing outstanding economic development initiatives and individuals in the Province of Ontario; the winners will be announced at the EDCO conference later this winter.
