Fire on Chantry Road leaves house standing but uninhabitable

RIDEAU LAKES — A homeowner escaped without injury after a fire on Chantry Road broke out the afternoon of Monday, Sept. 30. The blaze occurred at 1207 Chantry Rd. in Rideau Lakes Township.

Fire Chief Gene Richardson said the call came in at 1:37 p.m. Crews from all four stations of Rideau Lakes Fire and Rescue responded, along with Elizabethtown-Kitley Station 3 through mutual aid.

“We had 26 firefighters on scene, and the fire was under control by 4:19 p.m.,” Richardson told Hometown News on Oct. 1.

The house is still standing but not habitable. “It has not been determined at this time if it is a total loss,” Richardson said.

The cause remains undetermined and is now under investigation by the homeowner’s insurance company. Damage estimates were not yet available.
