Hospital leadership update

On Monday, June 7, 2021, the Board of Directors of the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital (PSFDH) announced that Dr. Barry Guppy, the President & CEO will be leaving effective August 27, after accepting a position at Health Canada.

Donna Howard, Chair, Board of Directors Howard in a notice to all staff praised Dr. Guppy for his work adding, “PSFDH has benefited immensely from Dr. Guppy’s leadership over the past two years, navigating the very public response to COVID with a focus on continuing to provide exceptional, high quality, compassionate and safe care in our community. Moreover, he has worked extensively, at times behind the scenes, to communicate the importance of our organization within the provincial health system, in part to enhance the fiscal sustainability of the hospital and also to support the direction of the Ontario Health Team in our region. There will be more time to acknowledge his significant contributions in the future. For now, we will take advantage of his expertise for the next 10 weeks as he continues to represent our organization and support the Board’s efforts to ensure a smooth transition to new leadership.

Dr. Guppy stated that, “I am pleased with the progress that the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital has made over the last few years despite the challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic.  I am very confident that a new leader will continue to create a vibrant and exciting future based on the strength of the hospital staff, physicians and volunteers and the tremendous support of the community”.

A search for the new President & CEO will commence this week.
