Toilet paper theft, a bridge too close and a cruiser rammed: June’s Smiths Falls police reports

Beckwith Street bridge closed due to person in crisis

On June 15th, 2025 Smiths Falls Police Service received a report of a male possibly in a mental health crisis on the Beckwith Street bridge. Members of Smiths Falls Police responded immediately to the area, including the Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT) Nurse. 

Upon arrival, it was confirmed that the male had already jumped once from the bridge and was planning to jump again. Smiths Falls Fire, Lanark County Paramedics and OPP Lanark were called in to assist. The Beckwith Street bridge was closed off to the public to ensure safety. 

The male in crisis jumped from the bridge a second time and continued to be uncooperative with first responders while under the bridge. The responding MCRT nurse continued intervention efforts and was successful in convincing the male to exit the water. Police apprehended the male under the Mental health Act and transported them to the hospital for assessment. 

Unwanted male charged for assaulting police

On June 4th, 2025 members of the Smiths Falls Police Service responded to a residence to assist in the removal of an unwanted person. Upon arrival, officers commenced an investigation with the uncooperative suspect. 

As a result of the investigation, 38 year old Cody LASCELLE of Smiths Falls stands charged with assault of a peace officer (x2) and resisting peace officer (x1). The accused was held in custody pending a bail court hearing. 

Youth arrested in assault investigation

On June 2nd, 2025 Smiths Falls Police Service commenced an investigation into allegations of assault that took place at a local convenience store.

As a result of the investigation, a 14 year female was arrested without incident. The accused stands charged with assault (x1). The accused was later released with conditions and a scheduled court appearance. 

Police cruiser rammed by suspect attempting to flee traffic stop

On June 20th, 2025 a member of the Smiths Falls Police Service initiated a traffic stop while on proactive patrol. The vehicle attempted to flee from police while causing damage to a near by residence’s fence. The suspect vehicle then reversed and rammed the officer’s cruiser then subsequently fled the scene of the collision. The police cruiser was heavily damaged from the impact. 

The vehicle driver was identified and a warrant was obtained for their arrest. 

On June 23rd, 2025 the wanted suspect was observed in town and attempted to flee from police again. The suspect fled into a residence where they were arrested without further incident. 

As a result of the investigation, 28 year old Dale SCOTT of Smiths Falls stands charged with flight from police (x1), assault a peace officer with a weapon (x1), Dangerous operation (x1), Mischief over $5000 (x2), Mischief (x1), criminal negligence (x1), fail to stop after an accident (x1), operation while prohibited (x7) and fail to comply with their probation order (x2). The accused was held in custody pending a bail court hearing. 

Neighbour dispute leads to arrest 

On June 6th, 2025 the Smiths Falls Police Service responded to reports of a disturbance inside a residential complex. Upon arrival, an investigation was commenced. 

As a result of the investigation one individual was arrested and charged for being intoxicated in a common area (x1). While in custody the individual caused damage to Smiths Falls Police holding cells and was further charged with mischief under 

$5000 (x1). The accused, 41 year old Dustin ROSE of Smiths Falls was later released on conditions with a scheduled court appearance. 

Assault leads to arrest 

On June 9th 2025, Smiths Falls Police were called to a residential area for an assault that just took place. Upon arrival, members of the Smiths Falls Police began their investigation.

As a result of the investigation, 46 year old Dominic DAUPHINAIS of Smiths Falls has been charged with assault (x1). The accused was later released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

Male arrested twice in intimate partner violence investigations

On June 5th, 2025 members of the Smiths Falls Police Service were dispatched to a local residence. SFPS received reports of an unwanted person in an agitated state. Upon arrival the parties were separated while police commenced the investigation. 

As a result of the investigation, a 33 year old male from Smiths Falls was arrested. The accused stands charged with assault with a weapon (x2). The accused received an additional charge of mischief (x1) after damage was caused to Smiths Falls holding cells. The accused was held in custody pending a bail court hearing. 

On June 16th 2025 the accused, who was now on a bail release order, was arrested again by members of the Smiths Falls Police. The accused stands charged with failing to comply with their bail release order (x1) and failing to comply with their probation order (x1). These charges were laid after allegations of a breach of court ordered conditions. The accused was held in custody for another bail court hearing. 

Dispute leads to multiple charges 

On June 9th 2025, Smiths Falls Police received multiple 9-1-1 calls for a disturbance taking place in a residential area. Members responded to the area to begin the investigation. 

As a result of the investigation 20 year old Matthew GLASER of Smiths Falls was charged with mischief (x1) uttering threats (x2), failing to comply with their probation order (x1), and breach of their recognizance (x1). The accused was held in custody pending a bail court hearing. 

Mischief to vehicle

On the 11th of June 2025 police arrested an 18-year-old female after receiving a report of damage to a vehicle. The female was charged with mischief, theft and released on an undertaking to appear in court at a later date. 

Break and enter charges laid

On the 14th of June 2025 police responded to a complaint of a male who broke into an apartment known to him on Ferrara Drive. Brian Mordy was subsequently charged with Break and Enter, Possession of a Controlled Substance (4 counts). He was held in custody pending bail.

Case of the missing toilet paper at the arena solved

As a result of an ongoing investigation of the case of a regular ongoing large supply of missing toilet paper at the arena, police have charged a 29-year-old female with theft under and breach of her probation order. It’s important to know that these thefts fall on taxpayers when the municipality must continually replace items not budgeted for. Police have requested restitution. 

Damage inside a local apartment complex

On the 9th of June 2025 police charged a 30-year-old male for mischief and fail to comply after receiving information regarding damage in a local apartment complex. The warrant was executed on the male after police located him on the 26th of June. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing. 

Criminal harassment warrant executed

A 30-year-old male is in custody after being arrested on an outstanding criminal harassment charge. He was held in custody and released at a bail hearing. 

Theft investigation leads to charges

Police conducted a theft investigation at a local grocery store and charged a 36- year-old male with breach of probation and theft under as a result. He was released to appear in court at a later date. 

Out of control youth kicks officer in the groin

On the 18th of June 2025 police responded to an out-of-control 15-year-old female youth at a residence. The youth was damaging property inside the home at the time of police arrival. During the arrest for mischief, the female kicked one of the officers in the groin area. She was charged with two counts of mischief, assaulting police, obstructing a police officer. She was released on an undertaking with conditions to abide with and a later court date. The same youth was charged again after a complaint for failing to abide by release orders. She was held in youth court for a bail hearing. 

Fail to comply arrest

On the 19th of June 2025 police arrested a 62 year old male for failing to comply with a release order. The subsequent charges are related to outstanding sexual assault charges. He was held for a bail hearing and later released on an undertaking.

Theft investigation

On the 19th of June 2025 police responded to a theft complaint at a local business. As a result, a 34-year-old female was arrested and charged with theft under and failing to comply with a probation order. She was released to appear in court at a later date. 

IPV mischief to a vehicle result in charges

On the 21st of June 2025 police responded to an Intimate Partner Violence call for service. A 30-year-old male was arrested and charged with mischief to a vehicle. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing. 

Youth arrested for several traffic related offences

On the 28th of June 2025 an officer on patrol noted a vehicle driving erratically around the area of Duncan J school. The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver fled the area. The driver hit a fence and continued to attempt to evade police in the area. The officer exited his vehicle and pursued it on foot where the occupants fled on foot and were apprehended. Two youths were arrested at the scene. The 15-year-old driver was charged with Flight from Police, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Mischief, Obstruct Police as well as several Highway Traffic Act Offences. He was later released to his parents on an undertaking with conditions.
