Community generosity helps the Lanark County Food Bank bring comfort and dignity to neighbours in need
It’s that time of year again! The Lanark County Food Bank – The Hunger Stop (LCFB) is getting ready to spread some Christmas cheer with its 17th annual Sandy Claus Stocking Drive.
“Collecting stockings begins right after Thanksgiving because clients only come in once a month for a full order,” said Tammy Parent, LCFB manager. “We have to start distributing in mid-November to be sure everyone has a happy Christmas morning. We know how generous our community is, and that generosity always puts a smile in someone’s heart, Christmas morning.”
Stocking fillers can include items such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, multi-blade razors, nail files, clippers, shaving cream, aftershave lotion, moisturizer, loofahs, hairbrushes, combs, dental floss, deodorant, and soaps of all kinds. Sweet treats are always welcome too.
The Sandy Claus Stocking Drive began 17 years ago with founder Sandy Schappert, inspired by her late husband, Hank, who was volunteering at the food bank when he heard clients say, “This is the only gift I get to open Christmas morning.”
Those wishing to donate a stocking filled with toiletries and goodies are asked to label them His, Hers, or Either, and drop them off at the Food Bank’s Donations and Deliveries door between Nov. 10 and Dec. 15 at 84 Mill Street, Carleton Place.
Drop-off times are Monday and Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Thursday, 6 to 8 p.m.; and Sunday, 2 to 4 p.m.
