Beckwith Reeve sworn in for fourth term as county warden

Richard Kidd to lead Lanark County council in 2026, emphasizing teamwork and community focus

LANARK COUNTY — Coun. Richard Kidd, (Beckwith Reeve), was acclaimed and sworn in as Lanark County’s warden for 2026 at the inaugural meeting Tuesday, Nov. 25. This is Kidd’s fourth term in the position.

He was nominated by Coun. Andrew Tennant, (Carleton Place Deputy Mayor), and Brian Dowdall, (Beckwith Deputy Reeve). Both cited his experience during an election year, his work with upper levels of government, and his commitment to the role.

Kidd said it is an honour to be chosen as warden through this year’s historic process. He added that the warden’s responsibility is to maintain clear communication between staff and council, ensure staff recommendations are understood, and see that council decisions are carried out.

Along with representing county council to the public and other governments, he said the role involves strengthening the harmony developed by past wardens Toby Randell (Carleton Place Mayor), Steve Fournier (Drummond North Elmsley Reeve), and Peter McLaren (Lanark Highlands Reeve), over the past three years.

“It’s an honour to be the warden and your team leader for 2026. We have a great team that includes staff,” Kidd said, noting the diversity around the council table and the strengths each member brings. “Our diverse backgrounds make us a strong team of decision makers. One thing we all have in common is that we care for the long-term well-being of Lanark County and its residents.”

Kidd thanked past wardens John Fenik of Perth, Bill Dobson of Montague and Gordon Patterson of Lanark Highlands for attending the meeting.

Committee chairps were also approved:

  • Randell, Corporate Services;
  • Coun. Rickey Minnille (Mississippi Mills Deputy Mayor), Community Services;
  • Coun. Jeff Carroll (Montague Deputy Reeve), Economic Development; and,
  • Fournier, Public Works.

Kidd named a striking committee to appoint members to various committees and boards. Council meets again Wednesday, Nov. 26 at 5 p.m.
