Smiths Falls Bears remain atop Robinson Division despite close loss
Friday night’s home game at the Den ended in a close 5–6 loss for the Smiths Falls Bears against the Kemptville 73’s.
Kemptville started strong, opening the scoring at 6:05 with William St. James, followed by Will Mullins at 14:24 in the first period.
Tyson Parker scored for the Bears at 5:48 of the second period, assisted by Carter Beauchesne and Cole Stants. Kemptville responded with a shorthanded goal by Eric Sweetapple at 11:22.
The Bears tied the game with a power-play goal by Andrea Blais at 12:25, assisted by Jackson Heron and D.J. Ott, and then leveled the score again when D.J. Ott scored at 16:04, assisted by Jack Paquette and Marc-Antoine Riopel. Kemptville regained the lead shortly after, scoring on a power play with a goal from Case Hennessy.
The third period remained competitive. Carter Beauchesne, helped by Cole Stants and Tyson Parker, tied the game at 3:13, followed by a goal from Caeden Heins at 4:03, assisted by Marc-Antoine Riopel and Jack Paquette. Darius Nichols of the 73’s tied the game again at 4:35.
Overtime resulted in a goal by Alexis Beaulieu for Kemptville at 1:44, giving the 73’s the win.
Smiths Falls outshot Kemptville 31–27, but were unable to convert enough chances into a victory.
Kemptville’s Alexis Beaulieu earned first star for the game-winning goal, D.J. Ott claimed second star for one goal and one assist, and Case Hennessy of the 73’s took third star with one goal and two assists.
Smiths Falls remains atop the Robinson Division with 29 points, while Kemptville sits just two points back. Overall, the Bears hold second place in the league standings.
