Smiths Falls Bears boast top graduating player, top GM

Mayor Shawn Pankow paused to recognize significant honours awarded to members of the Smiths Falls Bears during Monday evening’s council meeting in Smiths Falls.

“I’d like to congratulate Smiths Falls Bears Captain Sean James, who has been voted the top 2022-2023 graduating player in the CCHL [Central Canada Hockey League]. He has been an incredible player for the Bears.”

Mayor Pankow noted that James won a scholarship due to his academics and outstanding play. James, who was born in Almonte, has played for the Bears and the Westport Rideaus since 2018.

Pankow also offered congratulations to General Manager Coach Pat Malloy, who received top honours as the CCHL General Manager of the year. Malloy is in his fourth season with the Bears, and has built a reputation for recruiting and reinforcing strong hockey players with the team since 2019.

Mayor Pankow praised the local team and wished them well. “Best wishes as you enter the playoffs!”
