Smiths Falls council welcomes new Chief Building Official

During the Smiths Falls town council meeting on Tuesday evening, CAO Malcolm Morris announced that the town’s Building Services have seen a change of leadership. The former Chief Building Official David Sutherland has been replaced by former building inspector Peter Black.

“We’ve had a change within Building Services, so we want to appoint Peter. He’s been with us since 2014 as a building inspector,” explained CAO Morris.

Councilor Jennifer Miller inquired if Black would be continuing in this role going forward. “Is he simply helping us out, or is this a permanent solution?”

Morris replied that Black certainly was helping the town out, and noted that “he has retired from a career in the builder services; this is temporary. We will be recruiting a replacement.”

Councilor Dawn Quinn expressed her appreciation for Black stepping into this role, ensuring that the role of Chief Building Official is filled. “This is great news to have Peter Black here with us. This gives the town time and opportunity to interview future possibilities.”
