Shoplifter arrested, wanted person located; Theft, assault and Firearm investigations lead to charges

Smiths Falls Police apprehend multiple suspects during proactive patrols and ongoing investigations

Wanted person located

On October 15th, 2025 a member of Smiths Falls Police was conducting a proactive patrol in the downtown core and observed a wanted suspect. The suspect was arrested at the scene without incident.

As a result of the investigation, 29 year old Rebecca MCNAUGHTON stands charged with failing to comply with release order (x3). The accused was held in custody pending a bail court hearing.

Shoplifter arrested after string of thefts

On October 15th, 2025 Smiths Falls Police received information of a suspicious person in a residential area. Members responded to the area and located the person who was also known to be wanted by police.

30 year old Mathew DINELLE-DOWDALL was arrested for outstanding charges from three separate shoplift investigations from a local convenience store. As a result of the investigations, the accused stands charged with theft under $5000 (x3) and failing to comply with their probation order (x6). The accused was held in custody for a bail court hearing.

Theft Investigation leads to charges

On September 19th, 2025 Smiths Falls Police commenced an investigation after receiving information of an alleged theft at a residence. On October 16th, 2025 the suspect of the investigation was located and arrested without incident.

As a result of the investigation, 41 year old Shawn HISHON stands charged with making false statement in writing (x1), possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 (x1), make forged document (x1), use, deals, acts on forged document (x1). The accused was later released from custody with conditions and a scheduled court date.

Assault investigation leads to arrest

On October 15th, 2025 Smiths Falls Police commenced an investigation at a local residence in regards to abuse allegations. On October 16th, 2025 members of the Smiths Falls Police located and arrested the suspect without incident.

As a result of the investigation, 58 year old Ronald GOUGH of Smiths Falls stands charged with assault (x2) and assault cause bodily harm (x2). The accused was held in custody for a bail court hearing.

Firearm charges laid

On October 19th, 2025 Smiths Falls Police assisted Parks Canada Warden Service at the Abbott Street Lock Station. Parks Canada Wardens had one suspect under investigation for firearm offences. As a result, the suspect was taken into custody by SFPS without further incident.

56 year old William JONES of Smiths Falls stands charged with unauthorized possession of prohibited or restricted firearm (x1), possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order (x1), knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm (x1), and failing to comply with their probation order (x2). The accused was later released from custody with conditions and a scheduled court date.

The charges in these matters have not been proven in court.
