Weapons seized, robbery suspect caught, and shoplifters charged in Smiths Falls

Traffic complaint results in arrests

On August 27th, 2025 the Smiths Falls Police received information of suspicious motor vehicle with a possible impaired driver. Members of Smiths Falls Police responded to the area to investigate. The driver and passenger were arrested at the scene without further incident.

As a result of the investigation, the driver, 40 year old Jamie BLONDIN stands charged with failure or refusal to comply with demand (x1), unauthorized possession of a weapon (x1), and possession of weapon contrary to prohibition order (x2). The accused was later released with conditions and a scheduled court date.

The passenger, 29 year old Rebecca MCNAUGHTON was arrested on an outstanding warrant for failing to comply with release order (x2). The accused was additionally charged with unauthorized possession of weapon (x1), failing to comply with release order (x2), failing to comply with probation order (x6) and possession of weapon contrary to prohibition order (x3). The accused was held in custody for a bail court hearing.

On October 10th, 2025 Smiths Falls Police received further information that MCNAUGHTON who was released on bail four days prior is now in breach of her bail conditions. A warrant has been obtained and the accused is currently wanted by Smiths Falls Police Service for failing to comply with their bail release order (x3).

Intimate partner violence charges laid

On September 30th, 2025 Smiths Falls Police commenced an investigation after a report of intimate partner violence was received.

As a result of the investigation a 32 year old female from Smiths Falls was arrested and charged with assault (x3), assault with a weapon (x1) and uttering threats (x1). The accused was held in custody for a bail court hearing.

Charges laid in department store robbery

On October 1st, 2025 Smiths Falls Service received information of a robbery that just occurred at a local department store. Members responded immediately to the area to commence the investigation. The suspect fled the area but was identified through the security surveillance footage. SFPS obtained a warrant for the suspect.

On October 3rd, 2025 SFPS attended a residential area in attempts to locate the wanted suspect. Upon arrival to the residence the suspect began to flee out the back door of the dwelling. After a brief foot pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody.

As a result of the investigation, 37 year old Tyler PRETTY of Smiths Falls stands charged with robbery with violence (x1). The accused was held in custody for a bail court hearing.

Shoplift investigation leads to arrest

On October 7th, 2025 Smiths Falls Police received information of a shoplift incident from a local department store. An investigation was commenced by a member of the Smiths Falls Police and two suspects were identified through the store’s surveillance footage. The suspects were located and arrested without incident.

As a result of the investigation, 35 year old Amanda FRASER of Smiths Falls stands charged theft under $5000 (x1). The accused was later released with conditions and a scheduled court date.

47 year old Bryan MORDY of Smiths Falls stands charged theft under $5000 (x1) and breach of their recognizance (x1). The accused was later released with conditions and a scheduled court date.

Disturbance within residence leads to charges

On October 8th, 2025 Smiths Falls received information of a disturbance that just occurred at a local residence. Members of the Smiths Falls Police attended the scene to investigate.

As a result of the investigation, a 17 year old female has been charged with break, enter dwelling house (x1), assault (x1), theft under $5000 (x1) and uttering threats (x1). The accused youth surrendered themselves to SFPS without incident. The accused was later released with conditions and a scheduled court date.

Charge laid in shoplift investigation

On October 9th, 2025 Smiths Falls Police were informed by a local department store security guard of a shoplifter in custody. Members of the Smiths Falls Police responded to the scene to investigate.

As a result of the investigation, 45 year old Amanda MCCOSHEN of Smiths Falls stands charged with theft under $5000 (x1). The accused was released at the scene with a scheduled court date.

Wanted suspect arrested

On October 9th, 2025 Smiths Falls Police with the assistance of the Ottawa Police Service located and arrested a wanted suspect without incident.

31 year old Katelin BECKSTEAD of Ottawa was arrested on the strength of outstanding warrants. The warrants pertain to failing to attend court in relation to mischief and fraud charges. The accused was held in custody for a bail court hearing.

The charges in these matters have not been proven in court.
