SFPS arrest wanted male following vehicle pursuit and probation violations

Smiths Falls Police charge the 23-year-old with assault, flight from police, and multiple probation violations following the pursuit

News Release Update: Wanted male arrested

On September 22nd 2025, Smiths Falls Police commenced an investigation into an allegation of breach regarding a tamper alarm on an ankle monitoring bracelet by the accused identified as 23 year old Brandon WATTS-GOVEIA of Smiths Falls. The accused had been released on bail with this GPS ankle monitoring with outstanding charges relating to obstructing – resisting peace officer (x2) and failure to comply with probation order (x3). Smiths Falls Police confirmed that the monitoring device was tampered with and that the accused was not abiding by his conditions. A press release to the public was released to be on the lookout for this suspect.

On the 25th of September 2025, SFPS received information of a stolen vehicle pursuit that was discontinued from a neighbouring police service that was then entering into Smiths Falls from Kingson area. Smiths Falls Police located the vehicle in the area of Whitcomb Drive. The driver, intentionally drove at the Police Officers’ cruiser who made evasive action to avoid a collision. The driver did manage to hit the bumper of the cruiser as it continued to drive in a dangerous manner fleeing the area.

With the assistance of Lanark County OPP the male was arrested in Franktown area without incident a few hours later.

As a result of the Smiths Falls Police Service investigations, the accused stands charged with assault peace officer with a weapon (x1), flight from peace officer (x1), dangerous operation (x1), operation while prohibited (x4), mischief (x1), possession of property obtained by crime (x1), failing to comply with their probation order (x5) and failing to comply with their release order (x2). The accused was held in custody for a bail court hearing.

The charges in these matters have not been proven in court.
