From impaired driving to shoplifting: Smiths Falls Police make several arrests

Driver charged and arrested

On August 7th, 2025, Smiths Falls Police members responded to a report of drinking in a parked vehicle. Upon arrival, members began their investigation into the driver and the vehicle passengers. The driver was taken into custody without incident.

As a result of the investigation, the driver, 19-year-old Ashley MARACLE, stands charged with obstruct peace officer (x1), operation while impaired (x1), mischief under $5,000 (x1), novice driver with blood alcohol concentration above zero (x1), knowingly supplying liquor to a person under 19 years old (x1), and having liquor in an open container in an unauthorized place (x1). The accused was later released from custody with conditions and a scheduled court date.

One arrested after causing a disturbance

On August 8th, 2025, Smiths Falls Police Service received a 9-1-1 call regarding a suspect causing a disturbance at the Rideau Canal Lock. Members of the Smiths Falls Police responded to the area to begin the investigation. The suspect was uncooperative with police on scene and began to climb the Bascule train bridge. Smiths Falls Fire was dispatched to the scene as a precaution. After brief negotiations with police, the suspect climbed back down the bridge and was taken into custody.

As a result of the investigation, 41-year-old Justin BRYAN of Smiths Falls stands charged with obstruct peace officer (x1), causing a disturbance (x1), and engaging in prohibited activity (x1). The accused was later released from custody with conditions and a pending court date.

Suspicious male located and arrested

On August 10th, 2025, members of the Smiths Falls Police responded to a report of a suspicious male in a residential area. Upon arrival, the male was identified and known to have a warrant for their arrest. The subject was arrested on scene without incident.

39-year-old Cody LASCELLE of Smiths Falls was wanted on a court-issued bench warrant. The accused failed to appear in court on outstanding charges and was held in custody for a bail court hearing.

Traffic stop leads to numerous charges

On August 12th, 2025, a member of the Smiths Falls Police conducted a traffic stop after receiving an ALPR (Automated Licence Plate Recognition) hit for a suspended driver. The driver was identified and confirmed to be in breach of a court-ordered house arrest condition. The driver was taken into police custody without incident.

As a result of the investigation, 49-year-old Carol CURRAN stands charged with failing to comply with release order (x4), possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (x2), possession of property obtained by crime (x1), and several provincial driving-related offences. The accused was held in custody for a bail court hearing.

Shoplifter located and arrested

On August 14th, 2025, members of the Smiths Falls Police were informed of an early morning shoplifting incident at a local business. Members commenced an investigation into the matter. The suspect returned to the business later in the afternoon and was subsequently arrested without incident.

As a result of the investigation, 57-year-old Glenn CLARK stands charged with theft under $5,000 (x1). The accused was later released with conditions and a scheduled court date.

The charges in these matters have not been proven in court.
