A 29-year-old woman is facing a string of charges following two separate disturbances Saturday evening that led to her arrest and court detention, Smiths Falls Police say.

Around 9 p.m. on June 7, officers were called to a residence on Lombard Street after reports that a woman had assaulted and threatened to injure the occupant. Roughly two hours later, police were again dispatched, this time to a business on Main Street East, where the same woman was allegedly causing a disturbance.

Police say she became belligerent with staff and patrons, and reportedly threw a table, striking a wall. The table was damaged, resulting in mischief charges.

Officers arrested the woman for causing a disturbance and mischief. During transport, she allegedly spat and kicked through an open section of the cruiser’s plexiglass divider, prompting intervention by an officer. The woman was assessed by paramedics as a precaution but refused treatment.

Police noted the accused was already bound by two probation orders stemming from a previous incident involving threats with a knife.

She is now facing several charges, including:

  • Two counts of assaulting a peace officer
  • Two counts of mischief under $5,000
  • Causing a disturbance
  • Uttering threats
  • Two counts of failing to comply with probation

The accused was held in custody and transported to the Ottawa-Carleton Detention Centre. A bail hearing is scheduled for Monday, June 9, in Ontario Court of Justice in Perth.

Police say they are aware of a portion of the incident that was captured on a privately recorded video circulating on social media. Anyone who witnessed the events or has information is asked to contact Staff Sgt. Wilson at 613-283-0357.

The investigation remains ongoing. Chief of Police Jody Empey is expected to issue a statement once the review is complete.
