SFPS arrest wanted youth and local man in separate incidents

SFPS locate and arrest wanted male

On January 17th 2025, the Smiths Falls Police received information of a wanted person hiding out in a residence in Smiths Falls. The wanted youth male was deemed unlawfully at large from a detention centre.

Members of Smiths Falls Police, including the SFPS crime unit and the SFPS RPAS (remotely piloted aircraft system) were deployed for scene containment around the residence. The accused was successfully located and arrested without incident.

The accused was wanted on warrants with neighboring police jurisdictions. Custody of the accused was transferred over to OPP Lanark County.

Traffic stop leads to arrest

On January 17th 2025, at approximately 11:26 p.m. a member of the Smiths Falls Police conducted a traffic stop for a vehicle with an obstructed plate and occupants of the vehicle not properly wearing seat belts.

Upon further investigation, it was learned that the vehicle passenger was in breach of their conditions of release from a previous arrest. 19 year old Tristan Sweet of Smiths Falls was arrested on scene. The accused stands charged with failing to comply with undertaking (x 1). The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
