OPP locate body of missing fisherman in Mississippi River near Appleton

Members of the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), along with the Emergency Response Team (ERT), the Snow Vehicle, All Terrain Vehicle, Vessel Enforcement/Education (SAVE) unit, and the Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU), responded to a report of a missing fisherman in the Mississippi River in Appleton.

On Saturday, June 28, 2025, shortly before 9:00 p.m., officers were dispatched after a 34-year-old male, who had been fishing while standing in the water wearing hip waders, was reported to have gone under the water and not resurfaced. Extensive surface searches were conducted throughout the evening using drones and specialized units.

On the morning of Monday, June 30, 2025, the body of the individual was located and recovered by the USRU.

The OPP thanks the public and emergency partners for their cooperation and assistance.
