Bears treat fans to Halloween night victory over Canadians

Smiths Falls Bears rally in third period to earn 7–3 win over Carleton Place

SMITHS FALLS — The Carleton Place Canadians swept into town on a dark and stormy Halloween night to find out what tricks or treats the Smiths Falls Bears had in store for them in their first matchup of the season.

Marc Antoine Riopel opened the scoring for the Bears at 14:59 of the first period, assisted by D.J. Ott and Jack Paquette. Jackson Heron quickly followed with an unassisted goal less than a minute later. Carleton Place answered at 17:44 with a goal from Nathan Landriault, but Jack Paquette put the Bears back in front at 18:25, assisted by Carter Beauchesne.

The second period saw Carleton Place push back. Nathan Landriault scored again at 2:19, while William Sasseville responded for the Bears at 10:49, assisted by Tyson Parker and Davis Hails. Landriault completed his hat trick with a power-play goal at 11:49, keeping the Canadians within reach.

But the third period clearly belonged to the Bears. D.J. Ott scored at 2:00, assisted by Andrea Blais, then added an empty-net goal at 18:23, assisted by Peyton Veltkamp and Jackson Heron. Davis Hails wrapped up the scoring unassisted at 18:52, giving Smiths Falls a 7–3 victory. The Bears outshot Carleton Place 32–16.

First-star honours went to Nathan Landriault (CP) for his three-goal performance. D.J. Ott (SF) earned second star with two goals and an assist, while Jack Paquette (SF) claimed third star with a goal and an assist.

The Bears carried their momentum into Sunday’s matchup against the Nepean Raiders in Ottawa, posting a 5–1 win thanks to goals from Jacob Smith, Rhett Colson, Jackson Heron, and Marc Antoine Riopel, who scored twice.

Smiths Falls remains second in the Robinson Division and sixth overall, holding 17 points.
