LAURIE WEIR

It was a 2-1 win for the Smiths Falls Jr. A Bears Friday night at home in front of 333 fans in CCHL league play.

After a scoreless first period, Kemptville’s Samuel Dumont got the visitors on the board at the 8:17 mark in the second period. He was assisted by Eric Sweetapple and Avry Shaw.

It wasn’t until 17:45 that Smiths Falls was able to score when Jackson Heron tipped in his third of the season with help from Travis Ouellette and Jack Paquette.

The 1-1 tie held up until the final seconds of the game.

Ouellette found the net to give the Bears the edge with assists from Matthew Herb and Quinn Booth. He earned the game’s first star with one goal and one assist. Heron as the No. 3 star.

Goalie Trenten Bennett picked up the No. 2 star of the game for Kemptville.

Ethan Morrow held tough in the crease to earn the W.

The win improves the Bears record to 3-2 as they sit just two back of the Brockville Braves in the Robinson Division with six points. It’s a four-way logjam in the second spot.

Smiths Falls is on the road Sunday for an afternoon tilt against the Nepean Raiders at 2:30 p.m.
