Highway 7 collision involving an OPP cruiser leaves child in critical condition
PERTH — A child remains in critical condition following a head-on collision involving an OPP cruiser east of Perth Saturday afternoon.
Lanark County OPP say the collision occurred on Highway 7 between Drummond School Road and Drummond Concession 7 on Dec. 13 just before 4:30 p.m.
Police say an officer was on patrol in a marked cruiser when it was struck by an oncoming pickup truck. One occupant of the truck, a child, suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported by Air Ornge to a regional trauma centre. Two other occupants of the pickup were taken to hospital by Lanark County Paramedics with serious injuries.
The OPP officer was also transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
As the investigation continues, a fundraising effort has been launched by the child’s family to help cover medical, funeral and household expenses.
According to the family, the child remains on life support in Ottawa while relatives gather to say goodbye. The fundraiser states that any funds not required for immediate family needs will be donated to CHEO.
It was noted in the fundraiser, that the child would be 11 later this month.
The collision remains under investigation by the Lanark County OPP, with assistance from OPP Collision Reconstructionists and members of the Traffic Incident Management Enforcement team.
Highway 7 remained closed in the area for several hours to allow for the on-scene investigation.
Anyone with information or dashcam video that could assist investigators is asked to contact the Lanark County OPP at 1-888-310-1122 and reference incident number E251673466.
