A fire at the Lombard Street Subway/Pizza Hut location caused extensive damage Tuesday morning, with losses estimated between $250,000 and $500,000.
Smiths Falls Fire Chief Rick Chesborough told Hometown News that the department received the call at approximately 8:30 a.m., after a passerby in the Tim Hortons drive-thru next door spotted smoke and alerted authorities.
“There were no injuries,” Chesborough confirmed.
The fire is believed to have started in the basement, with an electrical issue suspected as the cause.
Crews from Montague and Drummond North Elmsley fire departments assisted, with about 30 firefighters on scene. Carleton Place Fire Department provided standby coverage while Smiths Falls Police attended to manage traffic in the area.
The sit down section of this location has been closed for quite sometime now for some reason . Weird . Fire is a very serious occurrence, thank God nobody was injured including our brave firefighters 🙏, with losses estimated between 250 and 500 hundred thousand dollars maybe this closed section could get a refit and reopen to the public .
