Heated dispute in Portland leads to arrest and further incidents

An individual is facing multiple charges after a heated dispute involving threats and an assault, as well as further incidents at a local hospital.

On Saturday, May 31, 2025, shortly after 8:00 p.m., members of the Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a disturbance in Portland. An officer was required to deploy their Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW, commonly referred to as a Taser) to arrest an individual at the scene. The individual was transported to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

While at the hospital, further threats were made against medical staff.

As a result of the investigation, 45-year-old Christopher CHURCH of Portland is charged with:

  • Assault
  • Mischief – destroy or damage property
  • Mischief – obstruct, interrupt or interfere
  • Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Brockville Ontario Court of Justice on June 27, 2025.
