Assault, theft & high-speed escape end in arrests by SFPS

Arrest made in assault investigation

On March 28th, 2025 the Smiths Falls Police Service received information of an assault that just occurred in a residential complex. Members of the Smiths Falls Police responded to the area and commenced the investigation.

As a result of the investigation 54 year old Clifford BARRY of Smiths Falls has been charged with assault with a weapon (x 1). The accused was later released from custody with conditions. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.

Intimate partner violence investigation leads to arrest

On March 28th, 2025 the Smiths Falls Police commenced an investigation after receiving information of intimate partner violence.

As a result of the investigation a 29 year old male from Ottawa has been charged with mischief (x 1) and theft under $5000 (x 1). The accused was held in custody pending a bail court hearing.

Driver who fled from police facing multiple charges

On March 30th, 2025 at approximately 9:02 p.m. a member of the Smiths Falls Police attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle in the downtown core. The driver was already known to police as a suspended driver. The suspect vehicle fled from police and the investigating officer disengaged from the vehicle pursuit. At approximately 10:51 p.m. the suspect surrendered themselves to police without further incident.

As a result of the investigation, 32 year old Jonathon MINSHALL of Smiths Falls is charged with flight from peace officer (x 1), dangerous operation (x 1), failing to comply with their probation order (x 1) and driving while under suspension (x 1). The accused was later released from custody with conditions. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.

3 youths charged in shoplift incident

On March 24th, 2025 Smiths Falls Police were informed of a theft that just occurred at a business on Ferrara Drive. Members responded to the location and commenced an investigation. 3 youth suspects were identified on surveillance video and known to the business as being previously trespassed for similar offences.

As a result of the investigation, 3 youths have been charged with theft under $5000 (x 1). All three youths surrendered themselves to Smiths Falls Police Service without incident. One youth was held for a bail court hearing. The two remaining youths were released from custody with conditions.

Male surrenders to police in breach investigation

On February 23rd, 2025 Smiths Falls Police Service commenced an investigation of a suspect breaching their court ordered conditions. The original charges are from an animal cruelty investigation. On April 2nd, 2025 the suspect surrendered himself to police without incident.

As a result of the investigation, 62 year old Thomas HARPER of Smiths Falls is charged with failing to comply with their court release order (x 1) and failing to comply with their probation order (x 2). The accused was held in custody pending a bail court hearing.

The charges in these matters have not been proven in court.
