PORTLAND — A teenager is facing impaired driving charges after a single-vehicle collision early Wednesday morning.
Shortly after 12 a.m. on Nov. 19, a member of the Leeds County OPP was approached by someone reporting a crash involving a driver who was trapped in their vehicle.
Leeds officers responded with Leeds and Grenville Paramedic Services and the Rideau Lakes Fire & Rescue team. The driver, who was alone in the truck, was extricated and sustained minor injuries.
Police say breath tests registered well over the legal limit.
A 17-year-old from Portland has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired by alcohol;
- Operation while impaired with blood-alcohol concentration over the legal limit;
- Driving a motor vehicle with liquor readily available; and,
- Novice driver with blood-alcohol concentration above zero
The youth’s identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. The accused was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.Police remind motorists that road safety is a shared responsibility.
