Ribbon cutting ceremony marks Smiths Falls’ new water tower officially in service
SMITHS FALLS — A new water tower is now officially in service in Smiths Falls, marking a key investment in the town’s long-term water infrastructure and future growth.
The project was partially funded through the federal Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program’s Green Infrastructure Stream. The federal government contributed $2 million toward construction, with an additional $1,666,500 provided by the Province of Ontario.
The Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program is part of the broader Investing in Canada Plan, which supports clean water and environmental protection, community resilience, and access to modern public infrastructure.
Town officials say Smiths Falls’ new water tower will improve water pressure across the community, support future development, and strengthen emergency water supply and fire protection capacity.
Mayor Shawn Pankow said the project reflects the importance of cooperation between municipal, provincial and federal governments in delivering critical infrastructure that supports long-term community needs.
Construction of the tower is now complete, and the town held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Dec. 10 to mark the milestone.
Town officials thanked residents for their patience during construction and said updates on additional infrastructure projects will be shared as work continues.
