Beckwith street construction to resume mid-January 2020

Posted on: January 3, 2020

Ottawa Greenbelt Construction (R.W. Tomlinson Ltd.), wrapped up work for 2019 on Beckwith Street on December 20, and will be returning to the site to continue with construction in mid-January.

“With two months of work already complete, I am very pleased with the progress being made,” said Shawn Pankow, Mayor of Smiths Falls. “I look forward to the completion of Phase I in 2020, and want to thank the residents and business owners on Beckwith Street for their patience and support as construction kicked off last fall.”

The contractors began work in mid-October and have made significant progress on the mainline sewer and watermain installations between Chambers and Main streets. The contractor will remobilize in mid-January – six weeks earlier than planned – to continue the work. The earlier start date means the crew will be able to work around less car and pedestrian traffic, and it also means a reduced impact on businesses during the peak summer season.

Once construction resumes in January, crews will move up the street to the block of Main and William to continue with the underground portion of the work.
