Big night Friday for the Bears

The Bears welcomed their fans back at the Den Friday night for the first home game since Christmas. The team had already two road games under their belt in the new year, a 6:3 win over Cornwall, and a 3:6 loss against Kemptville. Friday’s game turned into a big night for the team, especially for always smiling, always happy goalie Jake Smiths. The Bears came out of the game against the Kanata Lasers with a solid 4:0 shutout win, with 42 shots at goal recorded versus 19 by the Lasers.

The honour of shooting the first goal belongs to Ryan Richardson, who with the help of Alex Lewis and Brent Broaders put the Bears to the lead at $:05 in the first period.

Theo Todd pounded a puck into the net at 5:02 during the second period for a power play goal, assisted by Ryan Richardson and Cameron McLean. McLean then went on to shoot the next goal at &:14, with assists going to Tate Leeson and Alex Lewis.

Kanata decided late in the third period to take out their goalie, and the Bears promptly thanked the move with yet another score by Ryan Richardson at the 19:30 mark, assisted by Alex Lewis and Justin Trudel.

Ryan Richardson earned First Star for two goals and one assist, goalie Jake Smiths took away Second Star, and Kanata’s goalie Jean-Philippe Tourigny was awarded Third Star.
